Flagler College students were again successful in SPJ Region 3 Mark of Excellence Awards -SPJ president and vice president, Caroline Young and Cal Colgan, placed second and third in the Online Feature Reporting/4-Year College/University category, respectively, losing only to Flagler alumnus Jill Houser, whose article "St. Augustine Couple Finds Love, Chaos with International Adoption" advanced to the national Mark of Excellence Awards. In addition, Colgan won the Online Opinion & Commentary/4-year College/University category, therefore advancing to the national competition as well.
Cal Colgan and Caroline Young.This is the third year in a row for Flagler to advance to the national competition -Haley Walker and Ryan Day did so in 2010 and 2009, respectively. This year, Flagler alumnus Kristina Haumschild also won her category in television sports reporting, advancing Flagler to the national stage for the first time on the broadcast side, and Flagler also won third and second place finishes in online news reporting and in independent online student publication.
